FG Wrongly Paid Millions Of Naira To 588 Doctors — Ngige

The Nigerian government has promised to reclaim millions of Naira paid to 588 medical doctors who were wrongfully paid.

Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour, spoke with State House reporters in Abuja on Sunday.

According to Ngige, the impacted doctors benefited improperly from the Medical Residency Training Fund, which was intended for a specific group of doctors.

After a review of the 8,000 names given by Chief Medical Directors of federal institutions, their names were discovered.

Approximately 2,000 names should have been deleted, according to him, since they lack Postgraduate Reference Numbers from the National Postgraduate Medical College and/or the West African Postgraduate Medical College.

The minister, on the other hand, made a statement that a substantial amount of the money had been refunded by some of the health personnel.

Ngige said result of the first round of scrutinization will be compared to the lists the Post-Graduate Medical College and the Chief Medical Directors presented.

He assured that once the authenticity of names submitted are verified, the Accountant-General will pay the beneficiaries.

“We are doing that verification because we do not want what happened last time in 2020 to reoccur”, the minister added.
