Akeredolu Dares Buhari, Set To Sign Anti-Open Grazing Bill Into Law
Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is expected to sign the anti-open grazing bill into law, following a move to reduce insecurity in Ondo State and incidences of farmers/herders conflicts.
The governor’s action indicated that he was unconcerned with President Muhammadu Buhari’s acceptance of a review of 368 grazing locations across the country’s 25 states.
The Governor is expected to sign the bill into law on Tuesday, 31st August, 2021, according to the DAILY POST.
The governor’s action was in line with a resolution passed by the Southern Governors Forum at its most recent meeting on July 5, 2021 in Lagos.
The bill was enacted by the State House of Assembly on July 2, 2021, and it was intended to govern cattle security, rearing, and grazing.
The bill will also ensure the establishment of ranches in the state, as well as the prevention of farm crop destruction and the resolution of conflicts between herders and farmers.
