Release Nnamdi Kanu Immediately – Igbos In Diaspora Warns President Buhari

Igbo World Assembly, the umbrella group of Ndigbo in the Diaspora, has proclaimed that for Nigeria to continue to exist, meaningful conversation among all ethnic nations is required.

The group also warned the Buhari administration against using force to prevent ethnic groups from agitating for secession.

Shortly after a virtual meeting on Thursday, the group issued a statement signed by its chairman, Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze.

IWA also stated that it had studied how Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, was kidnapped and detained by the Nigerian government in a foreign country, and that he had been released unconditionally

The organization encouraged the government to give Nigerians the option of remaining united or focusing on issues such as huge insecurity, unemployment, hunger, poverty, and other issues

“We need a serious dialogue among all the ethnic nationalities for Nigeria to continue its existence,” it said.

“His [Nnamdi Kanu] further detention is unacceptable. The current situation whereby Southern Nigerians agitating for a free homeland are killed, arrested and detained, while cattle herdsmen/Miyetti Allah that kill our people and rape our women are protected can no longer be tolerated.

“The abduction of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu cannot silence or end the agitation, as the root cause for agitation remains unattended, that is, allowing the Nigerian people to decide their fate or live in freedom,” they added.

Through a national dialogue, the organization reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s unity based on the ideals of equality, fairness, justice, progress, and peaceful coexistence between and among its people.
