Ondo: Shops, Markets Shut As Akure Celebrates Age-long Festival

Following the celebration of an age-old event, business activity in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, have been halted.

NewsDirect said that businesses and markets across the city were closed on Thursday to commemorate the town’s ‘Aheregbe’ and ‘Amole’ festivals.

Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo, the Deji of Akure kingdom, declared that the change was in accordance with the festival’s requirements.

According to a statement published by the monarch’s Chief Press Secretary, Michael Adeyeye, “all markets and stores in Akure would be closed on Thursday 19th August, 2021 and Saturday 4th September, 2021” in honor of the event.

“It is crucial to clarify that there shall be no trading or opening of shops under any pretense on these days,” the Deji official added.

According to him, the festival will not obstruct human or vehicular circulation in any manner.

Meanwhile, anyone who disobeys the order and establishes a shop would have their goods confiscated, along with other traditional punishments.
