IGP Baba Revives SARS, Issues New Rules Of Engagement To Officers

The Nigerian Police Force’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has been reinstated by Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali Baba.

According to NEWSDIRECT, the squad was abolished last year after the #EndSARS protests by previous Police boss Mohammed Adamu.

SARS was disbanded, according to Adamu, after a string of claims of violence, extrajudicial killings, and human rights violations.

According to SaharaReporters, the IGP has resurrected the notorious unit and issued new terms and conditions for SARS officials’ operations.

SARS has been overhauled, and new rules of engagement have been handed to its officers, according to a statement released by the police chief on Thursday.

SARS employees are not permitted to interact in any civil case, according to Baba, and they are not permitted to intervene in cybercrime or arrest suspected fraudsters.

The Police Commissioner, on the other hand, made it plain that SARS officers are only used in armed robbery and kidnapping situations.

“They are not allowed to be involved in commercial matters, debt recovery, (landlord vs tenant issues).

“They are not allowed to interfere in any social/relationship cases (marital matters, boyfriend/girlfriend relationship).

“They are strictly for armed robbery and kidnapping cases!”
