Christian Leaders Pay Solidarity Visit To Sheikh El-Zakzaky, Wife In Abuja

On Tuesday, a group of Christian clergy made a solidarity visit to Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, and his wife, Zeenat, in their Abuja home.

After almost six years in detention, the IMN leader and his wife, Zeenat Ibrahim, were cleared and dismissed by the Kaduna State High Court two months ago.

During the visit, one of the pastors, Pastor Yohana Buru, expressed his admiration for the clerics’ decision to pay Zakzaky a solidarity visit.

The pastor also expressed gratitude to the Sheikh for delivering food to Christian widows in Kaduna who had lost their husbands as a result of insecurity. Thousands of people in the state have benefited from this generous gift, he said, during the last four years.

Rev. John Alhamdu of Abuja also spoke, saying that before meeting with the Sheikh, he had a different perspective on Muslims and Islam, but that he was now glad to hear the IMN leader express words of unity.

In his statement, Zakzaky, the IMN’s leader, detailed some of the dreadful experiences he and his wife endured while in prison, as well as the Nigerian Army’s attacks on him in December 2015.

Given their health, he described their recovery as a miracle.

The Sheikh emphasized that there are bullet pieces in his and his wife’s bodies at the moment.

He also expressed gratitude to the Christian clergy for their presence. He described them as his human brothers.

Elzakzaky stated that he would like to meet more people, but that due to his health and the country’s instability, he was unable to do so.

Pastor Yohana Buru of Kaduna, Rev. Titus Ishaku of Baptist Jos, Rev. John Alhamdu of Abuja, Rev. Peter Audu of Abuja, Rev. George T John of Kaduna, and Pastor Julius Audu are among the members of the delegation.
