Unknown Gunmen Kill Two Policemen, Injure Others In Kogi

Unknown gunmen from neighboring Ekiti State are said to have killed two police officers at a checkpoint in Kabba, the headquarters of Kogi State’s Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area.

According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred at the Origa checkpoint on the Kabba-Iyara road around 5 p.m. on Monday.

The suspected culprits in a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) opened fire on two police officers after they flagged them down for a routine inspection, according to the Daily Post.

Three additional police officers who managed to flee suffered various injuries as the fleeing bandits shot sporadically to clear the way for their escape.

The officers involved were from the Kabba police B divisional headquarters, which was recently established.

Meanwhile, the robbers were reported to be coming from the Ekiti axis and were likely on their way to Abuja via Kabba when the event happened.

The bodies of the two police officers were reportedly deposited at the morgue of Kabba’s General Hospital, while the injured were reportedly treated at a private hospital.

DSP William Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), could not be reached at the time of publishing the report.
