Twitter Has Agreed To All Conditions Given By Buhari Government — Minister, Keyamo

Mr Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, has stated that Twitter has agreed to all of the terms imposed by the Nigerian government.

The Buhari administration shut down Twitter in Nigeria in June, alleging “consistent usage of the site for actions that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.”

Buhari, on the other hand, established a team to work with Twitter to resolve a restriction that has been in place since June 4, despite the fact that many Nigerians have been circumventing the ban by utilizing Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

The team set up to communicate with the management of the microblogging site is chaired by Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture.

During an interview on Channels TV on Sunday, Keyamo, a member of the committee, said Twitter has agreed to make considerable concessions.

He said, “The reason the president took that step is to recalibrate our relationship with Twitter and not to drive them away from our country.

“That recalibration, we have started it and the President graciously added me to the committee.

“We also set up a technical committee to interface with Twitter and come up with a lot of conditions for them to fulfil for us to lift the suspension.

“It was Twitter that reached out to the Federal Government to say they want to know what and what they can do to straighten up the relationship with the Federal Government and so, we have gone far but I may not, at this forum, let out a lot but we gave them a lot of conditions and they have agreed to all the conditions.”
