Tokyo Olympics 2020: D’Tigress Lose Again
In their second Preliminary Round Group B match at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, loses 62-87 to their French counterparts.
After losing their respective tournament openers on Tuesday, D’Tigress returned to the Saitama Super Arena on Friday to face France in a game both teams hoped to finish on a high note and secure their first win of the Tokyo Olympic Games.
On Tuesday, France was defeated 74-70 by Japan in a game in which the Japanese, with an average height of 5’9″, put on a tenacious defensive effort complemented by some vicious 3-point shooting.
Nigeria took a 20-17 lead in the first quarter against the defending Olympic champions, but they gave up the lead in the third quarter and were down 70-50.
However, D’Tigress, led by Otis Hughley, overpowered the Americans in the fourth quarter, outscoring the world’s best basketball-playing nation 22-11.
On Friday in Saitama, they were unable to re-enact the opening and final quarters’ performance.
