No Policeman Died In My Convoy – Fashola

Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing, has refuted reports that police officers were killed in his convoy.

Hakeem Bello, his Special Adviser on Communications, responded on Wednesday night.

According to the aide, there was no “death crash” during the Federal Government Team’s inspection of the Second Niger on Tuesday, which was led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Prof Ibrahim Gambari.

Fashola was joined by Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour, and Uche Orji, the Managing Director of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA).

They toured the Interchange, along the Owerri-Onitsha Road, and the East approach to the Bridge in Onitsha, and then walked across to the West approach, according to Bello.

He claimed Gambari was taken to the West Approach at Asaba and the Bridge Toll Plaza before returning to Abuja after a media briefing.

“It was discovered much later that one of the vehicles in the Team of the Commissioner of Police from Anambra State had a mishap during which two policemen sustained injuries.

“It was confirmed from the Nigeria Police, Anambra State Command that they were treated at the Federal Medical Centre Asaba and had since been discharged,” he said.

Fashola, however, expressed deep sympathies over the two injured men of the Anambra Police Command.
