Ganduje Presents N196.3bn 2022 Budget To House Of Assembly

Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, the Governor of Kano State, has presented the State House of Assembly with a budget of N196.3 billion for the fiscal year 2022.

The budget, dubbed “Budget of Consolidation and Prosperity,” includes N107.5 billion in capital spending and N88.2 billion in recurrent spending.

Similarly, the budget anticipates overall income of N49.508 billion, down N40.5 billion from 2021, with education accounting for 26% of the total budget at N51.6 billion.

The state Ministry of Works would get a total of N33.8 billion in consolidation funds to complete all ongoing projects aimed at transforming the state into a megacity, according to the Governor.

The state Ministry of Health would receive nearly N15 billion from the Governor, while water supply will receive N13 billion and general administration will receive N27.1 billion.

The estimated recurrent revenue in 2022 is N146.8 billion, with N33.8 billion coming from internally generated revenue, N68.299 billion from federal allocations, and N37.556 billion from VAT.

Governor Ganduje predicted that revenue collection will be 77 percent in 2021, while spending would be 71 percent.

He explained that the state’s maintenance of law and order through security will cost N11.3 billion in order to maintain the state’s already established peace.

As the 2023 general elections approach, the Governor warned youths against being driven into political violence, adding that his administration would do everything possible to make Kano the best city in Nigeria.

In response to the budget presentation, Engr. Hamisu Chidari, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, praised the government for completing the 2021 budget despite the Coronavirus pandemic.

“Be rest assured that your Budget tag Budget of Consolidation and Prosperity will be passed on time so that works could continue,” the Speaker assured the Governor on the budget.
