Terrorism: Gbajabiamila stops motion seeking Isa Pantami’s resignation

The Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila on Wednesday shut down a motion that seeks the immediate removal of Isa Pantami as Nigeria’s Minister of Communication.

The Minister of Communication has been under fire for his comments praising terrorist groups like Al Qaeda and the Taliban. The minister also said he was always happy whenever unbelievers were being killed.

The opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the removal of the minister. Also, Governor Nyesom Wike has also called for his removal. Nigerians have also taken to several social media platforms, calling for the resignatuon of Isaac Pantami. However, the presidency and the All Progressive Congress (APC) is yet to make comment on the matter.

At the House plenary on Wednesday, Ndudi Elumelu (PDP-Delta) raised a point of order seeking a House debate that would lead to a demand for Mr Pantami’s resignation.

He was subsequently shut down by the Speaker, an APC chieftain who claimed the lawmaker did not make the law in line with the rules of the House.

“Your point of order is noted,” Mr Gbajabiamila said while overruling his colleague. No discussion was allowed on the matter afterwards.
