INEC declares Dapo Abiodun Ogun governor-elect

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, as winner of the governorship election held on Saturday in the state.

The Returning Officer, Prof Abel Idowu Olayinka, made the declaration in the early hours of Monday at the INEC collation centre in Magbon, Abeokuta.

Abiodun, who scored 241,670 out of the 680,947 total valid votes in the election, defeated 40 other candidates to emerge as the winner and governor-elect.

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) standard bearer, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, polled the second highest votes with 222,153 votes.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Prince Gboyega Isiaka, came third having polled 110,422 votes while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Buruji Kashamu, scored 70,290 votes to emerge fourth.

Declaring the election results at about 12:30am on Monday, Prof Olayinka said the APC gubernatorial candidate scored the highest number of votes to win the election.

Abiodun won in 11 out of the 20 local government areas of the state.

Akinlade won six local government areas while Isiaka and Kashamu won two and one local councils respectively.
