FG Reopens Eko Bridge, Begins Repair Of Airport Flyover

On Friday, August 13, the Federal Government declared that the Eko Bridge, which had been closed for renovations, would reopen to traffic.

Mr Olukayode Popoola, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, announced in a statement on Thursday night that the 10-week restoration work on the Eko Bridge was completed on time.

From August 13, he added, traffic would be redirected for the rehabilitation of the burned-out Lagos Airport flyover.

“The Alaka to Costain section of Eko bridge which was closed to traffic since 4th June, 2021 will now be opened on Friday 13th August 2021.

“The Honorable Minister of Works and Housing thanks the motoring public for their cooperation while the rehabilitation work was ongoing,” he said.

He also stated that extra maintenance on the Eko bridge would not necessitate its closure.

On June 4, the Eko Bridge was closed and traffic was redirected for the second phase of the bridge’s renovation in the Costain direction.

Popoola also announced that traffic will be diverted from Friday, August 13 to September 22 to allow for the rehabilitation of the Lagos Airport flyover bridge, which was destroyed in a fire.
