Sokoto: Declare Me The Winner Of Election, Tambuwal Urges INEC

THE governor of Sokoto State and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), in the State, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to rethink its inconclusive decision in the state.

The governor disclosed this while reacting to the decision of the INEC to declare the election in the State as inconclusive, saying it is confusing and embarrassing.

Tambuwal disclosed that up till the moment of the press conference, no tangible reason has been given for the sudden decision.

He urged INEC to give an adequate reason why election must be rerun in all the 136 polling units, saying where there is violence, “how could they go back to conduct a rerun election.

” Based on Section 136 of the Electoral acts, INEC has no such power to declare the election as inconclusive.

” I can only assure the people of the State that their mandates will be retrieved. We will definitely challenge this at the law court if INEC fails to readdress the situation and declared the candidates with highest votes as the winner of the election.

” I appreciate the people of the state for turning out in large numbers to vote for my candidature. I also praised the people for behaving in a reasonable way to cast their votes without any rancour or crises.

” I commend the people of the state for embracing our reintroduction of the violence-free electoral process in Sokoto, as we can all see that even the elections witnessed less violence unlike what is obtainable in the past.

” I commend the security agencies for their efforts, even though there was a little problem here and there, I still believe they try their best as well as the INEC,” he stated.

The Governor also likened the situation to what happened recently during the Governorship elections in Osun State, saying, ” I urged INEC to revisit the statement and declared the winner of the election.

“Every staff of INEC has their name to protect and I believe they should not do the bidding of any individual or try to satisfy anyone.”
