Bandits kill two, kidnap over 100 passengers in Sokoto

In two separate incidents on Sunday, armed men suspected of being bandits stopped two major roads in Sokoto, killing two people and kidnapping over 100 commuters.

Armed men are said to have attacked many main roadways in the state, including the Sokoto-Gusau road, where at least 60 people were taken to an unknown destination on Sunday.

The bandits also stopped the Wurno-Goronyo route, killing two people and kidnapping an undetermined number of others.

In Osun, five travelers were taken in different incidents.
Yahuza Abubakar Chika, the General Manager of the Sokoto Mass Transit, who raised the alarm on Sunday night, stated one of their buses transporting passengers was assassinated.

The General Manager of the Sokoto Mass Transit, Yahuza Abubakar Chika, who raised the alarm on Sunday night, said one of their buses conveying passengers was also affected.

“The driver of the bus and one other passenger escaped unhurt, but the rest of the passengers were whisked into the bush by the bandits,” he said.

The Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, could not be reached as at press time.
