REVEALED: Why Yoruba Monarchs Met In Benin Republic Over Sunday Igboho
The Yoruba monarchs in Benin Republic met on Sunday to discuss the arrest and detention of Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba nation freedom fighter. They decided to write to the country’s president, Patrice Talon.
The monarchs made the announcement after a meeting on Sunday at the Ajohoun Palace in Adjohoun, Benin.
The traditional rulers in the West African country convened to discuss measures to ensure that the secessionist I’d been freed by Beninese authorities, according to NEWS DIRECT.
Igboho, who is now being held by security forces in Cotonou after being arrested with his German wife on Monday, will appear in court in Benin on Monday for an extradition hearing.
The activist was apprehended by the International Criminal Police Organization at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, Republic of Benin, after the Department of State Security Services, DSS, proclaimed him wanted in Nigeria.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the traditional rulers informed BBC News Yoruba that they were working to find a solution to Sunday Igboho’s difficulties with the country’s authorities.
It was decided to write a letter to the president of the Benin Republic, the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Interior, and the Speaker of the country’s parliament, according to them.
King Siyan Aladjohoun of Adjohoun, one of the monarchs, claimed that they were considering paying a visit to the country’s President and other government leaders to settle the issues.
