President Buhari Speaks On Third Term Agenda In 2023

President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken out against reports of a third term agenda, stating that he is not considering it.

Buhari stated that he will offer all necessary tools and resources to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in order for the election to be successful in 2023.

He claimed that people destroying INEC infrastructure were doing so to prevent the polls from taking place, but he also stated that failure would not be tolerated.

Despite rising violence, Nigeria’s President reaffirmed that his administration had no plans for a third term, promising to do everything possible to ensure a successful election across the country.

Buhari spoke on Tuesday at the State House in Abuja after receiving Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to Yakubu, the electoral umpire’s offices around the country have recently been targeted, with roughly 11 of them being set ablaze or vandalized.

Speaking, Buhari said, “I received a briefing today from the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on the series of attacks on their facilities nationwide.

“These attacks are totally unacceptable, and we will not allow those behind them to achieve their evil objectives.

“I have assured INEC that we will make available to them everything they need to operate efficiently, so that no one will say we don’t want to go, or that we want a third term. There will be no excuse for failure. We will meet all of INEC’s demands.”
