Police Arrest Kano Teacher Who Abducted, Killed Schoolgirl, Hanifa Despite Collecting Ransom

Abdulmalik Tanko was arrested in Kano State for kidnapping and killing Hanifa, a 5-year-old child, despite paying a portion of the N6 million ransom sought.

Suraj Suleiman, Hanifa’s uncle, confirmed Hanifa’s death and the retrieval of her body at a mushroom private school in Tudunwada, Nasarawa local government area of Kano.

Tanko was Hanifa’s teacher, and it’s been suggested that he murdered her because she recognized him.

He claims that the abductor first took her to his wife, who refused to keep her.

“After his wife rejected to keep Hanifa, he took her to Tudunwada where he operates a private school and then laced her tea with rat poison,” he said.

“After she was poisoned to death, the kidnappers then cut her body into pieces and buried it within the school.”

The abductors were reportedly apprehended last night near Zaria Road in Kano while attempting to collect the second instalment of the ransom.

On December 4, 2021, the 5-year-old was abducted by kidnappers who approached her in a commercial tricycle and enticed her to enter for a joyride.

She and other neighborhood children were returning from an Islamic school at 5 p.m. on Thursday when the incident occurred.

Nigerians on Twitter have taken to Twitter to demand justice for the young girl, using the hashtag #JusticeForHanifa.
