JUST IN: Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Kill 15 People In Plateau

On Sunday night, suspected Fulani herders massacred at least 15 people, including women and children, in Dong village in Jos North Local Government and Kwi village in Plateau State’s Riyom Local Government Area.

On Monday morning, a resident of Dong village informed New Telegraph that the perpetrators broke into the hamlet late on Sunday night and slaughtered an entire family of six, including a cleaner, as well as two other people.

On the same night, a source told New Telegraph that suspected Fulani herders attacked Kwi village in Riyom Local Government at around 11 p.m., killing another family of seven people.

Hon. Timothy Dantong, a member of the Plateau State House of Assembly representing the Riyom Constituency, confirmed the slaughter in Kwi village.

He claimed that the raid occurred when the locals were sleeping.

On his route to the community, the legislator condemned the incident, calling it inhumane, and urging security services to apprehend the perpetrators.

He expressed regret that his constituents were being assassinated by unknown gunmen on a regular basis, noting that Riyom had been targeted since 2001.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued Monday morning in Jos, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Gabriel Ogaba, confirmed the killing of seven people.

“On Sunday, May 23, 2021, at around 2000 hours, the Command got a distress call that unknown gunmen burst out of a nearby bush, attacked Dong Village, Jos South LGA, and killed seven people.

“A combined team of police officers, STF operatives, and Vigilante operatives, commanded by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, arrived on the scene quickly, but the hoodlums had already gone back into the bush.

“The investigation is underway, and a desperate effort is being made to apprehend the fleeing individuals.

“In the meantime, security in that area has been tightened up to prevent escalation of violence.”
