Osinbajo In Kampala For Museveni’s Inauguration

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has arrived in Kampala to represent Nigeria at the inauguration of re-elected Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

Mr Museveni, has been ruling Uganda since 1986, when he rose to power through a coup.

The event, which comes up on Wednesday (today) at the Independence Grounds in Kampala, will be Museveni’s sixth induction as a democratically-elected leader.

Mr Museveni was declared winner of the January 14, 2021, election after overthrowing National Unity Platform’s candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

Nigeria and Uganda share cultural, social, and economic similarities and enjoy a good diplomatic relationship, including working together as member-states of the Commonwealth, the African Union, and the United Nations.

The two countries have signed bilateral agreements on Technical Aid Corps, Trade, and Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

The foreign affairs junior minister, Zubairu Dada, and President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide on economic matters, Adeyemi Dipeolu, accompanied Mr Osinbajo to Kampala.
