OAU Dismisses Lecturer Over Sexual Harassment

Another instructor at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife has been sacked after being found guilty of sexual misconduct against a female student.

The instructor, Dr. Adebayo Mosobalaje of the Faculty of Arts’ Department of English Language, was found guilty by the institution’s Joint Committee of Council and Senate.

The institution made the decision during its last sitting on Monday, according to a statement signed by the institution’s public relations officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, on Tuesday.

The Joint Committee of Council and Senate, which reviewed the matter of sexual harassment against Dr. Mosobalaje, stated unequivocally that sexual harassment would be treated with “zero tolerance.”

The OAU Management created a “anti-sexual harassment policy” about two weeks ago.

Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, the institution’s Vice Chancellor, reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to uphold the “Zero tolerance policy” for sexual harassment and other social vices.

Owelle Oscar Udoji, the head of the University Council, has also promised to support measures that foster mutual coexistence among all members of the university community.
