Nigerian Army Begs Boko Haram, ISWAP Terrorists For Reunion

The Nigerian Army has pleaded with Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists to seek forgiveness and reconciliation, claiming that soldiers and the general population are fed up with the deaths.

Brig.-Gen. A.A. Eyitayo, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s 7th Division, made the announcement at a press conference held by the army on Sunday in Maiduguri.

Mr. Eyitayo, who is also the commander of Sector 1 of Operation Hadin Kai, said the recent military offensive against militants delivered a decisive blow to the terrorists, scattering their remains.

He did warn out, though, that the Nigerian military was not pleased with the brutal conflict.

He claimed that this would allow them (insurgents) to receive rehabilitation and learn skills that would enable them to contribute to society.

The GOC praised the media’s role in the counter-insurgency fight and urged it to use its influence to help rebels see the light and repent of their wasted endeavors.

“We aren’t here for a bloodbath.” Nobody is pleased with the fact that people are dying.

Mr Eyitayo continued, “Some of them (insurgents) listen to the media, so it’s good for us to appeal to them through the media to avoid violence, come up to seek forgiveness and reconciliation.”

According to him, the feast with journalists was held to express gratitude for the coverage of military activities in the state by the media.

“There has never been a bad report in the three months that I have been on duty in Maiduguri in my capacity.

“This is to thank the media for their excellent coverage,” he explained.

The Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Borno, Mohammed Ibrahim, praised the GOC for assisting the media and promised him additional help and collaboration.

Mr Mohammed also praised the sacrifices made by the military and other security forces in the fight against insurgency. He urged the soldiers not to back down, saying that the people of the North East were behind them.
