Nigeria Win First Gold At Tokyo Paralympics

At the present Tokyo Paralympic Games, Latifat Tijani has won Nigeria’s first gold medal.

On Thursday, she won gold in the women’s 45kg powerlifting competition.

Tijani lifted 107kg to defeat China’s Zhe Cui.

Latifat Tijani, a gold medalist at the 2015 Africa Games in Brazzaville and a silver medalist at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, will compete in the women’s 45kg straight gold medal competition on the same day.

Yakubu Adesokan of Team Nigeria missed out on a podium position in the men’s 49kg Powerlifting competition.

With a best lift of 155kg, he came in fourth place.

On his final try to win bronze from Azerbaijan’s Parvin Mammadov, who lifted 156kg, Adesokan attempted 161kg but failed.

Adesokan won gold in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London and the 2014 World Para Powerlifting Championships.
