NAF Misses Target, Bombs Woman, Four Children While Chasing Bandits In Zamfara

A woman and her four children were killed in Sububu, Zamfara State, by airstrikes carried out by Nigerian Air Force fighter jets.

Sububu Forest is said to be one of Zamfara’s most notorious bandit hideouts.

When the terrible occurrence occurred, the Air Force was targeting outlaws at the large Sububu Forest located between Shinkafi and Maradun Local Governments, according to DailyTrust.

Bandits commonly assault passengers on the Sokoto-Gusau Road as well as villages in Sokoto and Zamfara States from the jungle.

The air force carried out the missions around 2 p.m. on Monday, according to sources.

Residents confirmed the strikes, saying the fighter jets missed their targets by dropping bombs on the Sububu town instead of the criminals’ hideout in the jungle.

“The bombs killed a woman and her four children. Two of the kids, a boy and a girl, were teenagers. One elderly woman was also wounded in the attacks,” a Sububu resident said.

Another source told Daily Trust that the jets were suspected of using the GPS coordinates of several high-value smartphones taken from Sokoto and being charged in the area.

“You know they own Sububu (village). Nobody goes there, not even security personnel and other officials,” he said.

Speaking to the airstrikes, NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, confirmed the multiple airstrikes on the area to PRNigeria.

Commodore Gabkwet said the military carried out “the precision airstrikes on the armed bandits after an intelligence and identification of the locations to avoid collateral damages.”
