House Of Reps Test Runs Electronic Voting Device

The House of Representatives conducted a test run of the electronic voting equipment on Wednesday, ahead of a vote on a constitutional change.

Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House, stated that the lower chamber of the legislative Assembly would ensure the machine’s effectiveness before voting day.

The purpose of the test was to eliminate any uncertainty during voting on highly contentious subjects, as the Constitution is normally considered clause by clause, with the presiding officer having no influence on the voting.

The method of voting in the constitutional amendment is normally done through electronic voting through a screen put in plain view of members, according to the DAILY POST.

The voting is frequently broadcast live on major television networks and on social media.

The amendment to the Constitution is now being worked on by both the upper and lower legislative chambers.
