Manchester United’s Greenwood On Bail Over Rape Allegation — Police

Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United forward, has been granted bail until mid-June following allegations of rape and assault on a young woman, according to Greater Manchester Police.

After photographs and videos were shared online, the 20-year-old was detained in January. He was also interrogated on accusations of making death threats.

Greenwood was given conditional bail, which was set to run out on Saturday.

“We are continuing to investigate a report made to us on January 30 of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.

“A 20-year-old man arrested that day on suspicion of the rape and assault of a woman, and threats to kill, remains on bail,” said the police. “An application has been made to the courts to have his bail extended beyond April 30, but the hearing isn’t expected to be until mid-June.”

The Greater Manchester police added, “The suspect will remain on conditional bail until the date of the court hearing.”

Greenwood, who has only played for England once, has been barred from playing or training with United until further notice.

Greenwood’s sponsorship deal with Nike has been canceled, and he has been removed from active squads in Electronic Arts’ Fifa 22 game.
