Makinde’s Govt Goes Spiritual To Tackle Insecurity In Oyo

The government of Oyo State has stated that it will use traditional methods to address the state’s security concerns.

Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, made the announcement.

NewsDirect notes that the state has faced a slew of security issues in recent months.

In the last three months, no less than fifty-seven persons have been kidnapped, according to our correspondent.

In the previous few days, gunmen have also killed state residents.

The state government, on the other hand, has stated that it is prepared to give sacrifices, special prayers, and other customary means to deal with the crisis.

A resolution at a Community Public Enlightenment meeting on Security and Peaceful Coexistence on Wednesday in Ibadan included the decision to employ traditional techniques to combat insecurity.

Olatubosun, who convened the meeting on behalf of the government, expressed the administration’s gratitude for the traditional worshippers’ support for the governor since the last gubernatorial election.

He said Makinde was working on granting the traditional worshipers’ request for a public holiday.

He emphasized the importance of involving traditionalists, as well as other religious groups, in the quest to reduce state insecurity.

“I wish to inform you that work is ongoing on the approval of a special holiday for traditional worshippers in Oyo State, it is a long process that must go through legislation, executive assent and state gazette, the government is working on this and we need your continuous collaboration to make Oyo State more harmonious and attractive to investors.

“We need to involve you our fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters in the traditional religion in putting an end to insecurity in the State, we are using this opportunity to urge you to do all you can, including making spiritual appeasements, sacrifices to ensure and maintain peace in our State.

“In the old, our forefathers had ways of overcoming insecurity, we need to go back and adopt some of these methods to make our land habitable, to make Oyo State the pride of other States and attract investors to bring their businesses, which in turn will multiply employment opportunities and improve commercial activities.”
