Atiku Fumes As Thugs Attack PDP Guber Candidate, Members In Zamfara

The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate has denounced attacks by alleged political thugs on party members in Zamfara State.

Dr. Dauda Lawal, the opposition party’s candidate for governor of Zamfara State in the upcoming 2023 general election, had earlier reported to NEWS DIRECT that he and other party members had been attacked on Friday night by thugs who were reportedly supported by the State administration.

In a statement released over the weekend by the Dauda Lawal Media Center in Gusau, Lawal emphasized that he and his entourage were ambushed by armed thugs on Friday night as they entered the capital of Zamfara State, Gusau.

One PDP member was killed in the terrible incident, while numerous others were hurt.

In response, Atiku, the former vice president of Nigeria, said in a post on his verified social media accounts that the attack was an effort to curtail Nigerians’ legitimate right to peacefully gather.

Atiku expressed his sympathy for the party’s Zamfara State chapter’s loss and promised to support efforts to ensure victims’ justice.

He wrote, “I have received reports of coordinated attacks on members of our great party, the PDP, by thugs in Zamfara State, which reportedly led to the death of one of our members.

“I condemn these attacks in entirety because it is an attempt to scuttle the lawful right of Nigerians to assemble peacefully and a direct attempt to suppress the legitimate campaigns of the PDP in the state.

“I reassure the Zamfara State PDP of my support, and most importantly, my heart goes out to the PDP family in Zamfara and the friends and loved ones of victims of this attack”.
