JUST IN: Boat conveying INEC officials capsize in Ondo [Video]

A speed boat conveying Ad-Hoc staff of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as well as election materials has capsized in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo state.

In the video seen by News Direct, officials were seen trying to float as they battle for survival. The incident damaged ballots and other election materials for some polling units in Ilaje local government.

As at press time, no casualty has been recorded has rescue efforts has commenced.

Gubernatorial election is currently on-going in Ondo state.

Political observers believe that battle over who emerges governor of the state is clearly between incumbent Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress, APC; candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Eyitayo Jegede, and Agboola Ajayi, candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP.

While INEC said there 1,822,346 registered voters, only 1,478,460 PVCs were collected and they will be the eligible voters in today’s poll.
