Residents in the Southern Kaduna region told NEWS DIRECT that armed bandits killed three people and kidnapped an unknown number of others.
The event took place in Kachia town, Kachia Local Government Area (LGA), Kaduna State, on Wednesday night.
A resident, Tanko Makeri, informed The Gazette on Thursday evening that the attack was carried out in Kachia market and its surrounding area by roaming gunmen.
“On Wednesday night about 9:00 p.m., we heard multiple gunshots within the main market axis.
“During the attack, the bandits killed at least three people and injured a large number of others while kidnapping an unknown number of people.
Mr Makeri stated, “There are various statistics on the number of people kidnapped during the raid.”
Mr Makeri further revealed that the brigands operated for several hours before whisking their victims away to an undisclosed place when security operatives intervened.
A local, Rachael Mark, informed The Gazette that at least 20 people were kidnapped during the incident, but that the number could be higher.
During the attack along the Agunu axis, one person was murdered and five others received gunshot wounds, according to Ms Mark.
When contacted by phone on Thursday, Mohammed Jalige, a spokesman for the police headquarters, verified the event to The Gazette.
“Yes, the command is aware of the attack, but I won’t be able to comment until the Area Commander and DPO have given me a briefing. The police spokesman stated, “We’re going to issue a statement.”
