BREAKING: Reps Pass Electoral Bill Amidst Protest

The Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill was passed by the House of Representatives, which kept the controversial Clause 52(2) in place.

The section gives the Independent National Electoral Commission the authority to decide when, where, and how voting and results transmission will take place.

Clause 52(2) reads, “Voting at an election and transmission of result under this bill shall be in accordance with the procedure determined by the commission.”

Several attempts to alter the clause resulted in a crisis in the House, requiring MPs to spend two days on the exercise.
