June 12: Protest Fears Knock Osogbo Residents Indoor

On Saturday, major avenues in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, were empty as citizens stayed at home in fear of being attacked by those pushing for Nigeria’s disintegration to make way for a Yoruba republic.

To prevent criminals from hijacking the June 12 protest gatherings, police have deployed to strategic points throughout the city to supervise processions.

Shops and business centers were closed, while major thoroughfares remained deserted due to the lack of traffic on the roads.

Residents abandoned their stores and workplaces, halting commercial and business activity.

Since President Muhammadu Buhari declared June 12 as Democracy Day, the Chairman of the Osun Coalition of Civil Society Groups in the state, Comrade Waheed Lawal, said the date on which Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola was elected as President has been turned into a celebration occasion.

While praising Buhari for recognizing June 12 as Democracy Day, Lawal asked him to prioritize security and the wellbeing of the people.
