Islamic Police, Hisbah Officials Shave Hair Of Secondary School Pupils In Kano For Being ‘UnIslamic’

Some secondary school students in the state of Kano had their hair forcibly cut off by members of the Hisbah Islamic police force because it was ‘unIslamic.

The Hisbah organization has persisted in pushing for an Islamic agenda in the North despite criticism from Nigerians.

The agency, established to enforce Sharia law has banned stylish haircuts, sagging of trousers, playing of music at social events by disk jockeys and tricycle riders from adorning their vehicles with pictures considered to be obscene and against the tenets of Islam in some states in the North.

A barber and his customers were in 2021 arrested for giving and having haircuts which were considered to be offensive to Islam.

Hisbah officials are also notorious for destroying truckloads of alcoholic drinks.

After it was knocked by the public for being silent on the photographs of the bridal shower of President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter-in-law, Hisbah responded by prohibiting the sharing of the bridal shower photographs.

NEWS DIRECT in 2021 reported that some Nigerians highlighted Zahra’s gown, part of which was made from a transparent material, while others pointed out that she did not have her hair covered as is expected of Muslim women.

The Kano State Hisbah Board has also banned the use of mannequins by fashion houses, stores, boutiques and tailors to display clothes.

Hisbah Commander-in-Chief, Ustaz Harun Muhammad Sani Ibn Sina, had said the use of mannequins by tailors, boutique owners and others contravenes the provision of Islamic injunctions.

He added that the agency would educate offenders on how Islam frowns on the use of mannequins. He said offenders would be arrested and prosecuted.
