Tear Gas, Tasers, Stampede — APC Convention Off To A Rocky Start
The venue of the All Progressives Congress (APC) conference in the federal capital area has poor crowd control (FCT).
Despite giving accreditation to media and delegates for the convention, the party and its administrators are having trouble allowing accredited people inside Eagle Square, the convention’s location.
Some hopefuls for posts on the party’s national working committee (NWC) were observed struggling to get into the site, as were their supporters and touts.
The police and other security agencies used tear gas and tasers to manage a near stampede at the venue’s gate in order to calm the situation.
“Where is my phone, please if you see an Android phone, please give me,” a distraught man who was attempting to get into the convention venue said.
Some party chieftains are still arriving at the venue of the convention.
The event is expected to kick off at 3:30pm.
