Pandemonium As Driver Escaping LASTMA Crushes People To Death

In a distressing incident on Monday, two street cleaners lost their lives at Charlie Boy bus-stop via Oshodi-Gbagada expressway in Lagos State.

The fatalities occurred as an unidentified driver attempted to escape a raid by officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA).

The lifeless bodies of the street cleaners, who were reportedly from the same family, were found in a drainage channel, triggering mourning among onlookers. The incident led to a blockade of the road, causing hours of inconvenience for stranded commuters.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the tragic event unfolded as the driver, in an attempt to evade an early morning raid by LASTMA, lost control of the vehicle and struck the victims.

Expressing their grief, residents, including a witness named Friday, decried the longstanding issues of exploitation and perceived cruelty by the Lagos state government and LASTMA.

“This has been happening for a very long time, the exploitation and the wickedness by Lagos state government and LASTMA, this wickedness must stop. Look at what happened, two family members died because a LASTMA official was chasing a bus. This has been happening for a very long time,” lamented Friday.

At the scene, enraged street cleaners voiced their frustrations, accusing the state government of jeopardizing their lives. Despite civil attempts to clear the road, the protesters remained steadfast until a contingent of police officers intervened, dispersing them with sporadic gunfire.
