Gunmen Kill Soldiers At Nigerian Prison Facility, Set Inmates Free

Some inmates at the federal correctional center in Kabba, Kogi State’s Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, are said to have escaped.

Hundreds of detainees are alleged to have fled when gunmen assaulted the jail on the Kabba-Lokoja route on Sunday and Monday early.

The military troops who were directing traffic on the road were killed before the gunmen attacked the prison authorities, according to reports.

The intruders then released the detainees.

According to a Punch report, the early morning downpour on Monday facilitated their escape. The building where the convicts were housed was apparently flooded.

However, approximately 100 of the convicts have been re-arrested, with an indeterminate number of them returning voluntarily.
