Gunmen Attack Former Imo State Governor, Ohakim’s Convoy, Kill Four Policemen

Four police orderlies who were assigned to the former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, were reportedly slain by gunmen during an attack on his vehicle.

On Monday night, there were reports of an attack on Ohakim’s convoy at Oriagu in the state’s Ehime Mbano Local Government Area.

The former governor narrowly avoided capture, but his backup vehicle was not so lucky. Terrorists bombed the vehicle, killing the four police officers who were traveling in his convoy.

Ohakim had confirmed the attack, despite the fact that CSP Mike Abattam, the police public relations officer, had not yet done so.

According to reports, the former governor was traveling back after a visit with two of his children when the shooters opened fire.

A source close to the ex-governor disclosed that it took the brevity of the driver of the ex-governor for him to escape.

The source said, “his excellency was the main target but his driver was smart enough to beat them because they were driving to block him.

“Disappointed that their main target had escaped, they blocked his backup vehicle and burnt it. The four policemen with him burnt.”

Following the attack, police sources said that various tactical squads had been sent to strategic roads while reinforcement came from Owerri, the state capital and escorted him to his house.

Ohakim, who spoke to some journalists said “Thank God I survived,” while decrying the gruesome killing of his orderlies.
