I Don’t Blame The Judges – Ex-Benue Gov Finally Reveals Why Appeal Court Sacked Him

Former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam, who was recently removed as Senator representing Benue North-East zone, expressed understanding for the judges of the Appeal Court who ruled against him.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja had overturned the judgement of the election tribunal, which had declared Suswam as the validly elected senator of Benue North East Senatorial District. The appellate court supported the appeal lodged by the APC candidate, Emmanuel Udende, nullifying the tribunal’s decision that favored Suswam of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Commenting on the ruling during a program on Arise TV, Suswam acknowledged the challenges faced by Judges in interpreting new statutes passed by the National Assembly and assented by the President. He urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to facilitate collaboration among Judges to comprehend these new laws.

Suswam emphasized the need to reinvigorate the Judiciary and enhance Judges’ working conditions to maintain public confidence in the judicial process. He refrained from blaming the Judges for his case but pointed out systemic issues affecting the judicial system.

Suswam said, “I don’t actually place the blame on the Judges because given the condition and the environment under which they work, we would not expect anything much from the Judiciary except when their working conditions are enhanced. So, I don’t blame the Judges on my case, but I blame the system. There’s a problem with the system.”
