Governors Rooting For State Police Are Inviting Anarchy – IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) has berated governors who are clamouring for state police saying they are inviting anarchy.

The IGP, speaking at the Open Government Partnership Week in Abuja, said governors who request state police do so for selfish reasons because they want to utilize state police against political opponents.

“However, state police will bring anarchy,” stated the IGP, who was represented by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Lemu Sanusi. Take a look at what’s going on in Kaduna with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC). What will the situation be with state police? A governor cannot dispatch state police in the event of an armed robbery. The governors are looking for tools to help them fight their political foes.”

Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, Minister of State for Budget and National Planning and co-chair of the Open Government Partnership, said the connection between citizens and police deteriorated after the EndSARS protest in October of last year. The administration, he claimed, is attempting to mend the strained relationship through the Open Government Partnership.
