FG’s N5,000 Cash Transfer To Help Poor Graduates Out Of Poverty — Ogun Govt.

According to the Ogun State Government, the federal government’s N5,000 payment is intended to help poor graduates and other indigents get out of poverty.

At the flag-off of the federal government’s Conditional Cash Transfer program in Ogun on Friday, the state’s Commissioner for Special Duties Femi Ogunbanwo said, “It is basically to help the poor graduate from poverty, prevent the poor and the vulnerable from sinking further into poverty and build resilience to withstand shock and risks.”

The gesture would help a total of 9,593 persons from six local governments around the state, according to the commissioner.

The federal government created the Household Uplifting Programme (HUP) in 2016 to strengthen the social safety net, according to Mr Ogunbanwo.

“The programme, HUP-CCT, is being coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development,” he said.

The beneficiaries were invited to express their gratitude to Governor Dapo Abiodun for embracing the plan, as opposed to the previous

“Today’s flag-off of HUP-CCT would not have been possible in the state if the governor had not been magnanimous enough to embrace the programme.

“This programme had started in other states in 2016 but the previous administrations in the state did not take steps to ensure that our people benefited from it,” he said.

Olufunmilayo Soyoye-Baker, Head, State Cash Transfer Unit, HUP-CCT, asked the recipients to leave their phone numbers and account numbers at the event, noting that all future disbursements will be digital.

Sufiana Idowu, speaking on behalf of the recipients, praised the state and federal governments for their generosity.

Idowu, a farmer, encouraged the federal government to ensure that the payments were made on a regular basis in order to bring the recipients out of poverty.
