Eid-el-Kabir: IGP Orders Tight Security On Highways, Worship Centres

IGP Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, has directed Commissioners of Police to beef up security on highways, places of worship, and recreational centers, among other places, ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir festival.

On Sunday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, issued a statement headlined, “Eid-el-Kabir: IGP guarantees ongoing efforts at strengthening public safety and security.”

Bala was mentioned in the announcement as congratulating the Muslim faithful in the country on the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations in 2021.

He also stated that the Force would continue to build on recent accomplishments in terms of restoring security order in some areas of the country, defending residents’ lives and property, and denying criminals a safe haven in and around the country.

Citizens are encouraged to celebrate and appreciate the beauty of Eid-el-Kabir while remaining security vigilant and following COVID-19 preventive practices, according to the police chief.

The statement read, “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc has assured the nation of sustained efforts by the Force in fighting crimes and criminality and improving public safety and security across the country. The IGP gave the assurance while charging Commissioners of Police in all the States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and their supervisory Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), to beef-up security ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, to prevent any untoward situation in their Areas of Responsibility throughout the Eid-el-Kabir season and beyond.

“The IGP particularly directed the Zonal AIGs and State Command CPs to put in place all necessary security measures to ensure a secure, peaceful and incident-free celebration.

“They are to, amongst other things, deploy human and other operational assets to carry out confidence building and crime prevention patrols on major highways, residential and industrial areas, vulnerable points, places of worship, other places of public resort and around all critical national infrastructure.

“The IGP equally warned that personnel deployed must be professional and mindful of the fundamental rights of the citizens, and discharge their responsibilities with all sense of decorum and alertness. “
