Gov Seyi Makinde Speaks On ‘Quitting Politics’

Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, has stated that the National Assembly’s ongoing revision of the 1999 constitution will yield no positive results.

According to him, the exercise is a futile exercise set up solely to ensure that funds allocated for the exercise are wasted.

Why can’t the report of the 2014 National Conference, which was held by former President Goodluck Jonathan, be implemented?

Further, Makinde claimed that he is willing to leave politics if, at the end of the day, the ongoing constitution review led by Senate President Ahmed Lawan and House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila yields a meaningful outcome.

“The ongoing constitution review is a complete waste of time. When they even took people to Abuja, they stayed there and they produced a document”.

”Former President Goodluck Jonathan didn’t sign it because he thought he was going to come back and wanted to sign it after coming back. That document has been on their table since 2015, what have they done with it?”

“Yes, every year they vote money for the review of the constitution and the National Assembly they have to spend that money. That is the exercise going on now. If anything comes out of it, that may be my end in politics,” he was quoted by Daily Independent to have said during an interview.
