BREAKING: Petrol Tanker Overturns, Explodes In Ogun

On Sunday, a tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit, also known as gasoline, exploded in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

The tanker overturned around 04.45 a.m. while on its way inbound Rounder from Oju-Irin, Lafenwa, Abeokuta, according to our correspondent.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, had earlier stated that TRACE personnel, police, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and firefighters were all working hard to restore normalcy.

Transloading was underway, according to Akinbiyi, who urged the general public, particularly those living or traveling near the axis, to be calm and cooperative.

He also cautioned the people to avoid scooping fuel, using a phone, or cooking with gas in order to avoid starting a fire.”

However, according to our source, the stricken tanker finally detonated during the rescue mission.

As of the time of reporting this article, it was not immediately clear if there had been any casualties.

Meanwhile, motorists traveling inward on the Rounder axis from Lafenwa are advised to take the Olomore and Oke-Ata axes as alternate routes.
