Diarrhoea Kills 35, 150 Hospitalized In 2 Days In Borno
After two days of reported case Diarrhoea that broke out in Gwoza town of Borno state between Saturday and Sunday, 35 persons died and 150 are now hospitalized.
Prior to this development, Borno State Commissioner for Health, Hon Juliana Bitrus, revealed and confirmed a few reported instances in Hawul, Kaga, and the most recent one in Gwoza Local Government Areas, where a reported case was formally registered on Monday (Yesterday).
Eight individuals died of the sickness in Hawul villages, she claimed, while two more perished in Kaga.
She went on to say that one person died in Pulka town, Gwoza local government area, and that 23 others were sick and are currently receiving treatment.
Professor Ibrahim Bulama, the Council’s Executive Chairman, stated this on Monday at the presentation of Border Communities’ Demands in the Borno State Multi-purpose Hall, Government House in Maiduguri. He urged both the Federal and Borno State governments to come to his Local Government’s aid as soon as possible to prevent the disease from spreading to other areas.
Professor Ibrahim Bulama, who presented the needs of ten local government regions bordering neighboring nations, noted that they are entirely lacking of social amenities such as power, clean water supply, motorable roads, health facilities, security protection, and so on.
Communities on the border face difficulty as a result of the lack of these amenities, according to him, and are obliged to travel to neighboring nations in search of these services.
Professor Bulama went on to say that the security system at the borders should be strengthened because foreign nationals are flooding into Borno at an alarming rate, citing the porous condition of the border, which facilitates the smuggling of rifles and ammunition, hard narcotics, and other unwelcome products.
The deployment of security personnel and gadgets to man all borders is critical, according to the Gwoza LGA Chairman, as insurgents take advantage of the absence of security personnel and the porosity of our border to continue their nefarious operations against the people of Borno State.
Hospitals, schools, clinics, roads, electricity, water supply, and recreational facilities, he said, will invariably prevent our people from traveling to neighboring countries for medical treatment and other reasons, while young men and women will not be attracted to urban cities for green pasture, and criminals will be denied space to carry out their evil deeds.
