Deontay Wilder offered 3-fight deal by DAZN

Deontay Wilder has reportedly been offered a three-fight, $100 million fight by DAZN, according to Mike Coppinger. This is a deal that would pay WBC heavyweight champion Wilder (40-0-1, 39 KOs) $20 million for his title defense against mandatory Dominic Breazeale (20-1, 18 KOs), and then $80 million for two fights against IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Each fight with Joshua would be $40 million. However, this deal hasn’t been verified by Wilder’s management. There will be a press conference next Tuesday. Things should be made clearer at that time. The only thing that’s known for sure is Wilder’s next fight will be against Breazeale.

In hindsight, one can argue that Wilder was smart not to sign a deal for a Joshua unification fight through Matchroom Boxing. By waiting to sign a deal for the Joshua fight with DAZN, Wilder could make a lot of money.

This would be a great deal for Wilder if true. Wilder would make a great deal of money for those three fights. There would be risk for Wilder, 33, every step of the way, of course. Just getting passed the 6’7″ Breazeale without losing will be hard enough, but then to face Joshua in consecutive fights. This is going by Wilder running the gauntlet.

As of now, Wilder’s title defense against Breazeale, 33, is expected to be televised on Showtime pay-per-view in May. If DAZN can sign Wilder, then that fight will be shown on DAZN instead.

“DEVELOPING: John Skipper offered Deontay Wilder a 3-fight deal worth roughly $100M to fight on DAZN yesterday, per sources,” Mike Coppinger said on his Twitter. “Wilder co-manager Shelly Finkel confirmed money “in that ballpark.” Dominic Breazeale at $20M, then two fights with Anthony Joshua valued around $40M per. Wilder and his team are deliberating. One thing is certain: he will defend his heavyweight title against Dominic Breazeale next. A press conference will be held Tuesday in New York. We wait to find out if the fight will land Showtime PP

Deontay Wilder moving to DAZN would give the platform the two best heavyweights in the division along with the best cruiserweight, at least for now, in Oleksander Gvozyk, one of the top light heavyweights in Dmitry Bivol, and the four best middleweights in Gennady Golovkin, Saul Canelo Alvarez, Danny Jacobs and Demetrius Andrade.

With wins over Breazeale and Joshua, Wilder could establish himself as the best heavyweight on the planet. He would then need to defend that status against all comers, likely starting with Usyk and then possibly Wladimir Klitschko.
