Controversial Islamic Cleric, Sheik Kabara Arrested, Charged To Court

Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara has been charged with blasphemy and incitement by the Kano State Government.

The Kano-based Islamic preacher is well-known for his divisive theological commentary and comments, which are widely viewed as insulting to the companions and sacrilegious to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).

In a statement released on Friday, the State Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammed Garba, said the development came after the Attorney General’s Office and the Commissioner for Justice received the initial information report from the police and prepared charges against the priest.

“Abduljabbar was subsequently arraigned on Friday, July 16 before an Upper Sharia Court Judge, Kofar Kudu, Alkali Ibrahim Sarki Yola, where the charges that included blasphemy, incitement, and sundry offences were mentioned”, it noted.

The case was adjourned to July 28th, according to a statement issued after the court session, and the scholar would stay in police custody until Monday, when he would be taken to prison until the adjourned date.
