“Come To Arsenal,” Fans Beg Lionel Messi After Barcelona Exit

After Barcelona revealed that Lionel Messi would leave the club, some Arsenal supporters want him to join their team.

Arsenal became a Twitter trend shortly after Messi’s departure was confirmed.

This was fueled even more by a tweet from Fabrizio Romano, an Italian football journalist who hash-tagged Arsenal when announcing Messi’s exit from Barcelona.

According to NEWS DIRECT, Lionel Messi’s 20-year career with Barcelona will come to an end after the Argentine superstar and the club were unable to reach an agreement on a new contract.

The unexpected news on Thursday marked a fresh chapter in a long-running tale in which Barcelona appeared to be set to keep Messi, widely considered as one of the greatest players of all time.

He attempted to depart as a free agent in August, but it was expected that he would stay with the Spanish giants for another five years, until 2026, when he would be 39 years old.

When he was 13, the 34-year-old signed his first contract with Barcelona on a napkin in 2000.

He has been a free agent since June 30, when his previous contract terminated.

Apart from the fans’ desire for Messi, previous rumors claimed that the Barcelona great was ‘tempted’ to join Arsenal in 2003.

One of the fans, @funny_dagreat, said, “Messi, Come home. Come to Arsenal.”

@arsenalinside_ tweeted, “You’re always welcome at the Emirates, Leo Messi… we’ll give you VIP treatment and your family can sit in the VIP section every game!”

“I wish Arsenal can pull this once in a lifetime stunt #Messi,” @TobbyGMichael said.
