Nigerian Teacher Killed In Downtown Atlanta Georgia On Sunday Identified As Jason Ogbomoh From Delta State

In the heart of downtown Atlanta, Georgia, a young educator’s life was tragically cut short. Jason Ogbomoh, a 25-year-old Nigerian national, was the victim of a fatal shooting incident.

The calamity unfolded on the early hours of Sunday, November 12, 2023. Multiple gunshots claimed Jason’s life, fired by an assailant whose identity remains unknown.

Jason was more than just a victim; he was the son of Chief Patrick Ogbomoh, a prominent figure in the Nigerian diaspora. As president of Agbor-USA, a key organization representing Agbor natives in the U.S., his father’s role underlined Jason’s own community ties.

Atlanta’s law enforcement reported the distressing incident, which occurred at 3:04 a.m. on Peachtree Street Southwest. Responding officers discovered Jason, severely wounded from multiple gunshots. Despite being rushed to the hospital, his injuries proved fatal.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Jason Ogbomoh as the deceased. Investigations suggest the shooting stemmed from an argument that tragically escalated.

The perpetrator of the shooting managed to flee the scene before the authorities’ arrival.

A beloved figure at Marietta Middle School, Jason taught computer science with a zeal and dedication that left an indelible mark. He had been an integral part of the school community for two years.

Diona Brown, the principal of Marietta Middle School, expressed profound grief in a message to Jason’s family. She lauded his evident passion for teaching and his unwavering dedication to his students. At just 25, Jason had already significantly impacted the school and its students.

To his students and colleagues, Jason was more than a teacher. He was a mentor, a role model, and an inspiration. Principal Brown emphasized his unique connection with students and his infectious enthusiasm for education. His absence, she noted, leaves a deep void in the school community.

Jason was an alumnus of the University of Georgia, where he majored in biology with a focus on neuroscience, graduating in 2020. He was also advancing his education, pursuing a master’s degree in computer science at Georgia State University.

In response to this tragedy, the school has arranged for counseling and district support, aiming to provide necessary assistance to students and staff during this difficult time.

The investigation into this heartbreaking shooting is ongoing, with authorities seeking leads to apprehend the responsible individual.
