During his address to the ECOWAS conference in Ghana, President Muhammadu Buhari praised his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan.
For the regional bloc’s mid-year statutory meeting, the President joined other Heads of State and Government.
Jonathan’s efforts to restore calm in Mali were praised by the Nigerian president.
Jonathan, an ECOWAS Special Envoy and Mediator in Mali, gave a report on his most recent working visit to the country.
Due to his suspension from the organisation, Mali was unable to attend the event in Accra.
Buhari encouraged ECOWAS to continue working with all stakeholders to find a peaceful solution to the country’s crisis.
The President described Jonathan as an “astute mediator” and congratulated him “for his untiring efforts thus far”.
“I encourage him to sustain these efforts to ensure that the transition is completed as scheduled,” Buhari added.
